ECB reference rates are published for information only. They are not the rate your bank, card or exchange office will give you, which usually includes a margin and fees.

Where do the rates come from?

Talisman uses the euro foreign exchange reference rates published by the European Central Bank (ECB) for about 30 currencies, normally around 16:00 CET on every TARGET working day. The page is rebuilt with the new rates each weekday after publication, so the date shown above is the ECB publication the numbers come from. Weekends and holidays keep the previous working day's rates.

How is a conversion calculated?

All ECB rates are quoted against the euro, so converting between two other currencies goes through the euro: the amount is divided by the rate of the source currency and multiplied by the rate of the target currency. The trend line shows the same cross rate over the last three months of published rates.

Can I use these rates for payments?

Treat them as a reference. Banks, card networks and money transfer services set their own buy and sell rates and add fees, so the amount you actually receive will differ. For tax or accounting, check which official rate your authority requires.

Is it private?

Yes. The rates are part of the page itself and are verified with SHA-256 before use. The converter makes no network requests, so the amounts and currencies you enter never leave your device, and it keeps working offline once loaded.
